2014 marked Smiths centenary as a listed company. One of the few FTSE100 companies dating from the Victorian era, Smiths Group has helped shape the modern world through its many and varied innovations in precision instruments, oil and gas equipment, and medical devices.

Smiths has evolved substantially since its foundation in 1851, successfully reinventing itself in line with market opportunities – from its origins in clocks and watches, through the significant growth in the automotive and aerospace sectors during the 20th century, to its current portfolio which taps into high-tech markets with strong long-term growth drivers.

Our technologies have played key roles in a string of historic achievements: the maiden transatlantic flight, the conquest of Everest, prototype ultrasound scanners, the first commercial autopilots…even the first test-tube baby. And our products and services continue to touch the lives of millions of people every day.
